Shaun Johnson Across the Mekong

Singapore Airlines Takes Shaun Johnson Across the Mekong

Singapore Airlines and SilkAir helped New Zealand rugby league star, Shaun Johnson, and his family travel to Laos to film Shaun Johnson : Across the Mekong which premieres tonight on Sky Sport 2 at 8:30pm.

The documentary was filmed late last year and follows Shaun and his family as they visit his mother’s homeland of Laos for the first time.

Singapore Airlines General Manager New Zealand, Simon Turcotte said Singapore Airlines and Silk Air were delighted to support Shaun and his family in making the trip to connect with their Laotian heritage.

“When Shaun first discussed the idea of travelling to Laos, the timing was perfect. SilkAir had just launched its services to Laos so we were more than happy to help him and his family fulfil their dream visiting his mother’s homeland,” said Mr Turcotte.

Singapore Airline’s regional wing SilkAir launched flights to Luang Prabang and Vientiane in October 2016, making it easier for New Zealanders to travel to Laos.

“Laos is a beautiful country, and Shaun’s visit there makes for a compelling and emotional documentary that will really engage viewers,” said Mr Turcotte.

Shaun Johnson: Across the Mekong screens on Sky Sport 2, tonight 27 February 2017, at 8.30pm

It is a revealing documentary that follows one of rugby league’s biggest stars, as he and his family discover their Laotian roots and his mother’s tale of escape. Filmed against the backdrop of Laos’s mountains, plains and rivers, the documentary also takes the bustling markets and Buddhist blessings of Laos. The documentary not only showcases the destination but will unveil a side of Shaun not seen on the field on game day.
