Experience a mysterious underground world of rushing water before drifting in silent darkness beneath the luminous shimmer of hundreds of glowworms. Your trip to the Te Anau Glowworm Caves begins with a cruise to the western shores of Lake Te Anau on one of our purpose-built scenic cruise vessels.
At the entry to the caves at Cavern House, view the informative displays and learn about this geological wonder before you join your guide underground. On the tour of the caves, our friendly guides will point out the highlights and share their knowledge of the caves and its history.
This underground world is astonishingly beautiful. By geological standards the caves are very young (12,000 years) and are still being carved out by the force of the river that flows through them. The result is a twisting network of limestone passages filled with sculpted rock, whirlpools and a roaring underground waterfall.
Deep inside the caves, beyond the roar of the water, you will be taken by small boat into a silent hidden grotto inhabited by thousands of glowworms, unique to New Zealand. In the subterranean darkness, they produce a glittering display that is nothing short of extraordinary.
Overnight at Radfords on the Lake

Our Nature Cruises have a flexible, extended itinerary which gives you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and take in the highlights. Our experienced skippers will tailor the cruise route on the day depending on the weather and wildlife sightings to ensure you get to see the best that Milford Sound has to offer.
Informative, participative and more relaxed, a Nature Cruise is the perfect way to experience Milford Sound to the fullest.
Day 5: Queenstown
Today you will explore the surrounding Queenstown highlights with a full day private sightseeing tour of Wanaka and Arrowtown.
Your day begins in historic Arrowtown; a site swarmed firstly by European gold prospectors in the 1860’s, then by 5000 Chinese who were invited to try their luck amongst the leftovers! You’ll walk amongst the tiny restored cottages of their settlement and wander down the main street of this exquisite little town with its charm of historic buildings that will make you feel like you walked on to a movie set.
Historically used by Maori as a pathway to greenstone sites and later by goldminers for accommodation close to Cardrona claims, today Wanaka has branded itself as a lifestyle reserve; rich in family adventures, eco-tours, recreational trails and nearby skifields, it is surrounded by huge mountains and massive glaciers. We will lead you to the Reflection Tree, which grows within the lake. It is obsessively photographed across every season, and you will see why.
Then will have one hour of free time to wander Wanaka at your whim, maybe you’ll look around the shops, sit and have an icecream by the lake, or go for a walk along the lake path? The choice is yours. We recommend choosing an easy lunch option from one of the nearby cafes and taking advantage of the views
As we head back towards Queenstown, we will take the Crown Range home. As New Zealand’s highest sealed road, the Crown Range is usually covered in snow in winter and boasts some incredible viewing platforms. You will step out and soak these up and grab a photo or three.
High on the hills they toiled – But before you do…we still have one famous stop to make. Built in 1863 to service gold prospectors, offering them accommodation, and a place to stop and seek refreshment, is Cardrona Hotel. It is one of New Zealand’s oldest pubs, and possibly the most well-known (it has been much photographed internationally). Pop in and explore, and we’ll shout you a beer or soft drink to enjoy in the beer garden or by the fire. You’ve worked for it.
Day 6: Queenstown
This morning, take your time to wander Queenstown yourself. From your base at the Hotel St Moritz, Queenstown, it is easy to explore the township around the lake.
This afternoon, you will have a private transfer to the Kiwi Birdlife Park. There is the opportunity for kiwi feeding. Discover 5 acres of forest sanctuary tucked away right in the heart of Queenstown.
The Kiwi Birdlife Park, is located near the base of the Skyline Gondola. So, afterwards, take a ride up the Skyline Gondola for a Kiwi Haka Show and Buffet Dinner.
