Bhutan Festivals
Bhutan Festivals
Throughout the year, there are many great Bhutan festivals, below we highlight two of these:
Bhutan Matsutake Festival
Celebrated from 22-23 August 2016, the unique Matsutake Festival is held in the Ura Valley. Often considered one of the country’s most beautiful valleys, this is welcoming the beginning of mushroom season. Partaking in the Matsutake Bhutan festival activities offers foreign visitors an inside look at life in rural Bhuhtan as well as the opportunity to sample some truly delicious meals.
At the festival, visitors learn how to identify these distinct mushrooms while embarking on mushroom picking excursions through the pristine forests and hills.
Of course, a Bhutan festival would not be complete without engaging in customary songs and dances with the locals. Other festival highlights also include indulging in special dishes featuring the Matsutake and even relaxing in open-air mineral baths.

Tour of the Dragon
Test your cycling skills.
Considered one of the most challenging on-day events in the world, the race covers 268 kilometres of absolutely stunning Himalayan landscapes as it takes cyclists from central Bhutan in Bumthang to western Bhutan in Thimphu on 3 September 2016.
Bikers traverse indomitable mountains, travel through unspoiled forests, over babbling streams and raging rivers. Also crossing four mountain passes. Set amid the high mountains of Bhutan, the race covers elevations ranging from 1,200 to 3,340 metres. Much like the infamous Paris Roubaix, the Tour of the Dragon is a trial that no self-respecting cyclist will want to pass up.
Come for the race, but stay for the travel experience of a lifetime!
